Weekend Recap - Sports Edition

This past weekend sure flew by!  Patrick & I were extremely busy - which I LOVED because we got to spend time with a lot of great friends.  Warning - this post contains LOTS of pictures...

Friday night, we went to on our usual date to Stefanina's Pizza.

My sister Marcy came with us on this trip.  We shared an order of potato skins (minus the onions).

I had the house salad with chicken and Patrick had the tortellini...both excellent choices.

The waitress was so cheerful about letting me get a shot of her in action...love you Liz!

For those of you who don't know, my sister Marcy is pregnant with a May 3rd due date!  I wanted a good belly shot after dinner...

Hurry up and come out baby Gavin!  We can't wait to meet you!

On Saturday, Patrick & I volunteered at the Special Olympics.  We signed up through my work to help staff a game booth in Victory Village.  Our game was baseball themed.

During our shift, we saw Patrick's extended cousin Kathleen.  She was with her boyfriend and gushed about how she was so excited about going to Prom.  It was so sweet!  I love young love.

Saturday night, Patrick & I went to the LET'S GO BLUES game!  It was my first playoff hockey game experience.  Unfortunately, it wasn't a winner, but we still had a great time.

They gave out ThunderStix when you entered the arena and it sure got loud when the fans were all clapping.

In between periods, we got to spend time with 2 of Patrick's college friends who are season ticket holders. We love you Verby & Brayfield!  And yes, that shout-out was for you Brayfield since you asked if this would make the blog.  Thanks for reading!!

On Sunday, Patrick & I went to the Cardinals game with his friend Randy.  Unfortunately we were 0/2 on the weekend since the Cardinals ended up losing to the Brewers.  However, we still managed to have a great time at the game.  Plus, it was World Series trophy replica day - so that was an added bonus!

Pictures of my favorite player (Yadi)
and the World Series MVP (Freese)

Whew!  What a weekend!  I hope everyone has a good week at work!

Happy Birthday Josh!

We are celebrating another birthday today - my baby brother Josh is turning 18! I can't believe how fast this little (no big, much bigger than me) guy grew up.  I was 9 years old when Josh was born and my older sister and I acted like second (and third) moms.  This kid was and still is extremely loved.

NOLA - Friday

I decided to break up our New Orleans trip into 3 parts to cover all the details (and because I took WAY too many photos!)

We headed out for New Orleans on Thursday afternoon and spent the night in Grenada, MS.  Sorry - no pictures from that portion of the trip.  We crashed at the Holiday Inn and hit up a local sports bar to watch the Blues hockey game.

On Friday, we got on the road fairly early to finish our trip to the South.

Patrick was a very good driver...

And I was an EXCELLENT passenger...

And I had a little fun playing with my camera...

When we arrived in New Orleans, we picked up Patrick's Uncle Tommy and headed to the French Quarter to meet up with his Aunt Faye and a couple other relatives - Pippy & Ann from California.

The French Quarter was full of character.  I loved all the balconies and greenery and everywhere you turned there were Saints & LSU flags.

Since we were celebrating Patrick's sister Jessie's 21st birthday, we went to Pat O'Briens piano bar.  The place was packed and we had a great time singing along.  The decor was very cool with beer steins hanging from the ceilings.

The birthday girl and her sister Liz both had Pat O'Briens famous Hurricanes.

And I tried some of Patrick's - it sure was STRONG!

Friday night we stayed at Patrick's cousin Brandy's house.  Unfortunately, my camera didn't make many evening appearances.  More to follow in Part 2...

GO in April - Kitchen Drawer

I'm sure you can tell by the title - I accomplished another task off my list!

April 15 - Clean out at least one kitchen drawer.  Keep only what you actually use and replace any damaged or broken items.

Yep - I sure don't sugarcoat these before shots....

I took everything out of the drawer and basically divided the contents into 4 piles:  things that belong in the drawer, things that don't belong in the drawer, things to be tossed and things that belong in the drawer but are DIRTY!

Does anyone else's husband follow the rule that if it came out of the dishwasher, it must be clean?!?  Although I guess I can't complain because it does mean he helps with the dishes....love you honey!

After sorting through the utensils, I organized the keepers back in the space.

It's nothing fancy, but way better than before.

The other part of the task was to replace any damaged or broken items.  This was perfect because I just received a new set of measuring cups in the mail a few weeks ago.  I haven't busted them out yet, but couldn't wait to share:

This is the POURfect 22-piece measuring set from Kohls.  I loved the color and I loved the variety of sizes ranging from a drop to 2-cups.  They also have a coordinating measuring bowl set I might purchase depending on how I like the measuring cups.  I'll keep you updated with a full review.

GO in April - Outdoor Furniture

I'm afraid I won't be able to get through all my tasks this month, but I'm still working hard.

April 11 - Inspect and clean outdoor furniture for use as the weather warms up.

Patrick & I have a small apartment deck, so we don't have much in terms of outdoor furniture.  We have 2 chairs I picked up at Garden Ridge a couple years ago.  It looks like they are offering similar styles again this year.

Since it has rained heavily in the past week, I started by propping up the chairs on the side of the deck so any water could drain out.

While the chairs were draining, I wiped them down with a wet rag.  I also cleaned the small glass table that sits between them.  After the chairs had drained, I rinsed off the deck and set the furniture back up.

Perfect for outdoor reading!!

Next on my list - Do something with this corner of pots:

Any ideas on what to plant??  I don't have much of a green thumb.

Since I was outdoors, I had to throw in a picture of my wind chime.  Love it!

Happy Birthday Brandon!

I interrupt my regularly scheduled Wedding Wednesday to bring a special birthday message to my little brother who is turning 21 today.  I love you Brandon.  You are the one who reminds me the most of myself.

I Love My Whirley-Pop!

There is one appliance in our kitchen that gets so much love, it has become a permanent fixture on our stove-top:  The Whirley-Pop!

Yes - we are hooked on popping our own corn on the stove!
The ingredients are really simple - oil and kernels.  We like to buy the buttery oil and we are a big fan of Orville Redenbacher's kernels.

Directions are easy - squirt 3 tablespoons of oil in the popper to coat the bottom.  Add 1/2 cup of kernels.  Turn the stove on high and crank the handle until the popping stops.  Be careful when you pour the popcorn into a serving bowl - hot steam will come flying out and can burn your hand - trust me, I know.  You can add toppings to the popcorn - our favorites are a few more squirts of the buttery oil (just like at the movies!) and regular old table salt.  Yum!  Once you try it, you will be hooked!

I'M BACK!!

Sorry for my absence.  I thought I had scheduled posts to automatically publish while I was on vacation but apparently there is a known issue that this feature is not working.  Blogger FAIL!  Anyways, did someone mention a vacation?  That's right, Patrick & I just rolled in after an 11 hour drive from New Orleans.  We spent an extended weekend visiting with his family in Louisiana and it was AMAZING!  More posts to come on all the details of our weekend adventure, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek:
