Happy Birthday Keshia!

Today I am paying tribute to my bestest friend who lives a million mile aways in California so I won't be able to celebrate her 27th birthday with her.  I love you Keshia!

{Sorry Keshia - I couldn't resist this one!  This has to be one of my favorite pictures of us of all time - I laugh every time I look at it.}

Weekend Recap - Entertainment Center / Jucy Lucy

Patrick & I had a great, relaxing weekend.  My parents came up Friday night and were the first guests to spend the night in our new guest room.  Yay!  The guest room still needs a bit of work, but we are getting there.

We finally found an entertainment center for our family room.  We had a really tough time finding something that was the right size & the right price.  Our patience paid off and we found this beauty on clearance at Garden Ridge for $75!  The box looked pretty rough, but we inspected it pretty good in the store decided to take a gamble.  Winner!

I love it!  The next thing on our list is to get a bigger TV - or maybe a new recliner....tough call!  We've been watching the Olympics all weekend, so bigger TV might have edged its way to the top of the list.

Sunday night, Patrick tried out a new recipe - Jucy Lucy burgers.  Patrick first had one while in MN for a wedding at The Nook.  It's basically a huge burger stuffed with cheese.  I'll post the recipe later this week.

Overall, this was a great weekend.  I tried to take a picture to show you how happy I am, but Patrick's foot kept sneaking in.

Have a great week!

Sunshine Award

At the beginning of the week, a good blog friend of mine, Tabitha, over at Debt Free Mommy notified me that she awarded me the Sunshine Blog Award.  The Sunshine Award is given from bloggers to bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere.  I am honored that Tabitha thought of my little blog as an inspiration.

Here's how the award works:

1.  Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to their blog so they might get some extra love from your readers.

2.  Answer a series of questions about yourself.

3.  Choose your 10 favorite bloggers to pass the award on to.

Disclaimer:  This reminds me of those chain letters - You have 20 minutes to answer these 10 questions and then spin in 3 circles and then forward this to 100 of your closest friends or the world will end!  However, since I have never been recognized in this way, I decided to play along - just this once.  I will modify the rules slightly by answering only a few of the questions and nominating my top 3 blogs.  I'll also give a write up of why I love these blogs and why you should check them out too...

So here goes nothing:

1.  Favorite animal - Is it terrible of me to say none?  No favorite animal for this gal - I am just not a pet lover.  Please don't hate me!

2.  Favorite drink - This one is easy - Sweet Tea!  I am a country girl when it comes to my tea.

3. Facebook or Twitter? - Facebook for me.  I love using Facebook to keep up on my friends.  I don't always have time to call my girlfriends to check in, but I can see what they're up to online and make a note to ask them about their activities the next time we do talk.  I haven't jumped on the Twitter bandwagon yet, although my husband loves it.

4.  Giving or getting gifts?  -  Love to give!  Nothing makes me happier than *finally* finding that perfect gift for someone special in your life.  I try to put a lot of thought into gifts.

5.  Favorite flower - I love my rose bushes in the backyard.  My grandma was named Rose, so I always think of her when I see them.

Now for the 3 blogs I am really loving right now:

1.  Ann Marie at white house, black shutters - If you don't already read Ann's blog - you should!  This is one of the first blogs I started reading and was my inspiration for starting a blog of my own.  She has great tutorials, but likes to keep it real for her readers.  Love!

2.  Lindsey at Just A Small Town Girl - I love this blog because it rings true to me - I'm a small town girl (now living in the city, but still!)  Lindsey is fresh, honest, and always has new fashion and beauty finds.  You should definitely check her out.

3.  Cassandra at 25 in my 25th - Cassandra is so funny!  I love reading her blog because she has a list of 25 things she wants to do while she is 25 - great idea, right?  She does a fabulous job of taking her readers on the journey with her.  She has inspired me to come up with some goals of my own.

That's it - show these bloggers some love!  I have a ton of other blogs I read regularly, so maybe I'll have to do another post spotlighting my faves.

Thanks for reading!

Wedding Wednesday - A Special Engagement

A couple weeks ago, we heard some very exciting news.  Patrick's brother, Eric, proposed to his girlfriend Erin.  Yay!  I am so thrilled about another family wedding.

Here is the happy couple....
And here is the gorgeous ring!

I was able to talk to Erin this weekend about the wedding scoop and although they have yet to set a date, she said they are planning on a barn-style wedding in her homestate of Kentucky.  I swoon....

In honor of her big day dreams, here is some barn wedding inspiration from the web.

I can't wait to see what Erin comes up with!

Yay!  We have a BBQ grill!

Happy Mexican tortillas for dinner.

Gavin was baptized!

Patrick & I are blessed to be the godparents.

My front porch flowers are still alive!

My rose bushes are doing very well in the backyard.

This statue was a housewarming gift from my parents.

That's all for now.  I hope to get back on a regular schedule soon.  Thanks for stopping by!

Get Organized in July

Have you missed me?  I am sure happy to be back (for now).  After the big move, I have been without internet, so no blog posts for me.  Luckily, the cable/internet man is coming on Thursday, so expect a full lineup next week.

I did want to give a quick update on my prior month's progress and my new organization goals for July.  Like always, these come from the Get Organized website.

Here is what I had on my list from last month.

April 21 - Wash windows inside and out. (Waiting for the new home)  Done!  When we moved in, my mom came and helped me clean all of our new windows and glass doors.  Thanks mom!

April 22 - Swap out winter decor for spring decor. (Still working on this one - we have a new doormat and some pretty purple flowers on our front porch, but not much interior decor.)
May 8 - Shoe Parking! Many families take shoes off at the door to avoid tracking outside dirt into the house and onto carpets. A bench with a handy shoe rack makes it easy for family and guests to stop and remove shoes before going further into the house. (Still working on this one, bench has been purchased but need to find the perfect spot.)

May 17 - Open that mail right over the recycle bin. Handling mail sometimes leads to stacks here and stacks there. So when you bring it into the house, sort it immediately. Shred anything that has personal information on it and recycle the rest. Keep any bills or important mail in a separate file.  (Also working on this one.  We actually have a REAL recycling collection at our new house.   Woohoo!  I am working on getting it all organized.)

May 24 - Organizing the car is something we let slide while we take care of our house and families. Containerize loose items so things don't fall out when you open the door.

June 17 - Create a kitchen annex. Store seldom used appliances and serving pieces together in a closet. If you don't use it regularly, it shouldn't be taking up valuable real estate in the kitchen.  (Working on this one - Patrick's brother is building us some shelving units for the basement to store overflow kitchen items.)

June 19 - Manage your money. Some simple things to keep on top of your finances are balancing your checkbook, paying a couple of bills each evening, reconciling your credit card statement, reviewing that bank statement for errors and filing your weekly receipts. These simple tasks give you a good view of your finances.  (Working on this one - now that we have a mortgage, we need to pay extra close attention to where all our money is going.)

June 26 - Clean out your old makeup in your cosmetic drawer. There are items that should be replaced frequently, such as mascara. It should be replaced every 3 months for safety sake.

New tasks for July:

July 8 - Straighten up your garage as much as possible.  Then sweep it.

July 16 - Time to restock your summer first aid kit.  Essential and basic items are:  sunscreen, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment, bandages, aloe vera, hydrocortisone ointment, and cold compresses.

July 17 - Thoroughly clean the kitchen sink.  Clean in and around the drains.  Use a brush to scrub around the faucet and sprayer.

Don't forget to hop over to The Hyper House to see what Julie is up to this month.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July and I will see you all next week!
