Get Organized in July

Have you missed me?  I am sure happy to be back (for now).  After the big move, I have been without internet, so no blog posts for me.  Luckily, the cable/internet man is coming on Thursday, so expect a full lineup next week.

I did want to give a quick update on my prior month's progress and my new organization goals for July.  Like always, these come from the Get Organized website.

Here is what I had on my list from last month.

April 21 - Wash windows inside and out. (Waiting for the new home)  Done!  When we moved in, my mom came and helped me clean all of our new windows and glass doors.  Thanks mom!

April 22 - Swap out winter decor for spring decor. (Still working on this one - we have a new doormat and some pretty purple flowers on our front porch, but not much interior decor.)
May 8 - Shoe Parking! Many families take shoes off at the door to avoid tracking outside dirt into the house and onto carpets. A bench with a handy shoe rack makes it easy for family and guests to stop and remove shoes before going further into the house. (Still working on this one, bench has been purchased but need to find the perfect spot.)

May 17 - Open that mail right over the recycle bin. Handling mail sometimes leads to stacks here and stacks there. So when you bring it into the house, sort it immediately. Shred anything that has personal information on it and recycle the rest. Keep any bills or important mail in a separate file.  (Also working on this one.  We actually have a REAL recycling collection at our new house.   Woohoo!  I am working on getting it all organized.)

May 24 - Organizing the car is something we let slide while we take care of our house and families. Containerize loose items so things don't fall out when you open the door.

June 17 - Create a kitchen annex. Store seldom used appliances and serving pieces together in a closet. If you don't use it regularly, it shouldn't be taking up valuable real estate in the kitchen.  (Working on this one - Patrick's brother is building us some shelving units for the basement to store overflow kitchen items.)

June 19 - Manage your money. Some simple things to keep on top of your finances are balancing your checkbook, paying a couple of bills each evening, reconciling your credit card statement, reviewing that bank statement for errors and filing your weekly receipts. These simple tasks give you a good view of your finances.  (Working on this one - now that we have a mortgage, we need to pay extra close attention to where all our money is going.)

June 26 - Clean out your old makeup in your cosmetic drawer. There are items that should be replaced frequently, such as mascara. It should be replaced every 3 months for safety sake.

New tasks for July:

July 8 - Straighten up your garage as much as possible.  Then sweep it.

July 16 - Time to restock your summer first aid kit.  Essential and basic items are:  sunscreen, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment, bandages, aloe vera, hydrocortisone ointment, and cold compresses.

July 17 - Thoroughly clean the kitchen sink.  Clean in and around the drains.  Use a brush to scrub around the faucet and sprayer.

Don't forget to hop over to The Hyper House to see what Julie is up to this month.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July and I will see you all next week!
