20 Weeks & Nursery Sneak Peek

Time is really flying!  I can't believe I am already halfway through my pregnancy.  We had a checkup last week and the doctor said the ultrasounds all look fantastic.  Baby is doing good!

Here's an updated belly shot:

And here is a sneak peek at what I am working on in the nursery:

I purchased the vintage brass giraffes online from an antique dealer.  They are so adorable.  Similar mama and baby giraffes can be found on etsy.
The stuffed giraffe and giraffe painting are ideas I found on the Project Nursery website.  My high school friend Chance is doing the canvas painting for me.  I found a pattern for the stuffed giraffe but need to find someone with sewing skills.  Any takers?
The giraffe lamp is from World Market.
We purchased white furniture and will be leaving the walls the current beige color.  We will be accenting with yellows, oranges and browns - very gender neutral.
Let me know if you see any great giraffe finds!

Weekend Recap - Baby Edition

This weekend I definitely got my baby fix.  It's still crazy to think that come July,  I'll have a baby around 24/7.

We spent Saturday and Sunday in Perryville watching this little cutie:

Can you believe this guy is only 10 months old??  He takes up half my body when laying on the couch together.  Isn't he just so sweet and snuggly though...
Here he is watching Yo Gabba Gabba with Uncle Patrick:

And on Sunday, we had double trouble with my cousin's twins:

They are growing so fast and are just so adorable.
It was a great weekend.

Get Organized in March

I can't believe it is already March!  February just flew by.

Here's what I've been working on off my prior organization lists:

May 17 - Open that mail right over the recycle bin. Handling mail sometimes leads to stacks here and stacks there. So when you bring it into the house, sort it immediately. Shred anything that has personal information on it and recycle the rest. Keep any bills or important mail in a separate file. (Still working on this one - we have the desk set up, but still to do some more organizing in the office area.)

July 8 - Straighten up your garage as much as possible. Then sweep it. (This might have to wait until it is warmer out. We've got 2 cars and a lawn mower and supplies all squeezed in.)

Aug 11 - Wash down outside patio, driveway or decks after sweeping. (Will do in conjunction with the garage cleaning in the spring.)

Sept 25 - Make a list of all food/household items you normally use on a regular basis. Post this list on the inside of a kitchen cupboard. When you are making your shopping list, you can reference this list of necessities.  (Done!  I've got a printable list saved on my computer at work that I can take with me while shopping.)

Oct 10 - Do a quick scan of your refrigerator. Remove any containers of unused food and recycle/wash the container. Open your vegetable and fruit refrigerator drawers and remove any old, unusable food.  (Done!  Fridge has been cleaned out - what a good feeling.)

Oct 25 - Start preparing a 20-day meal rotation plan. Gather ideas from each family member and come up with 20 different dinner time meals that can be used on a rotating basis. Then make a grocery list based on the first 5 meals.  (This one is daunting - I need to get motivated to start!)

Nov 18 - Sort and clean out your purse and wallet. First empty all of the contents, and then evaluate every item and sort. Try to make at least two sorting piles. One sorting pile will include items you need to put somewhere else or throw away. Another pile will include items you will return to your purse or wallet.

Nov 29 - Is it time to turn the mattress? To be sure you mattress has even aging, it is recommended that a mattress is turned every month.

Dec 7 - Sweep outside your front door. Clean the outside entryway of dirt, leaves and debris. Sweep off steps, the balcony and/or patio area that leads to your front door.

Dec 17 - Gather together items needed for overnight house guests. Make a basket/box of small toiletries, collect or purchase guest towels, etc. and extra bedding.

Jan 3 - Take time today to be sure that your yearly calendar has events such as birthdays and anniversaries, appointments, visits, etc. entered for each month.

Jan 19 - Make a bird feeding area. Spread bird seed in an above-ground planting pot in your back yard.

Jan 21 - Today you can organize and sort through your coat closet. Take out any clothing etc. that has not been worn or used in over one year. Be sure that your closets are used for clothing and outer wear instead of a spot to place never or rarely used stuff.

Feb 3 - Locate all income tax documents and papers and organize in one location. Begin preliminary filling out paperwork (if not already completed) or call for an appointment for assistance. (Done!  Paperwork has been collected and Patrick is working on our filings.  We will file away in our new file cabinet once he is finished).

Feb 8 - Clean your stove top with hot, sudsy water. Remove burner trays or grills if you have them on your stove and either soak or hand scrub them in your sink or put them in the dishwasher if possible. Flat surface glass stove tops can be cleaned very well with cleaning solutions for this purpose.

Feb 19 - Clean out your freezer of any outdated foods. Pull out foods that have been in storage for over six months. Foods that are well packaged can tolerate longer freezer periods. Toss foods that show signs of freezer burn. Be honest with yourself about what foods will someday be consumed. Organize items so that the latest package dates will be used up first.  (Done!  Freezer is also clean. It's best to clean this one on trash day so nothing defrosts in your trash can while waiting to be taken out.)

Feb 22 - If your fireplace has been used this winter, it could use a good cleaning at this time. You can call a professional if the chimney needs sweeping. Remove ashes as much as possible and wipe clean with a cloth the fireplace screen and glass doors. Does your wood pile need restacking or need to be moved to a more convenient location?
Here is what I have on my agenda for March:
Mar 1 - Spring cleaning is just around the corner.  Inventory your spring cleaning supplies.  Replenish if necessary.
Mar 5 - Organize and clean your shoe storage rack or shelves.  Remove all shoes, then vacuum the floor beneath or wipe clean the shelves.
Mar 13 - Clean and dust the outside of your washing machine and dryer.
Mar 14 - Unclutter and organize a shelf or two in your linen closet.
Mar 19 - Do you have a good system for bill paying?  Set up an area that has all the necessities for getting this task done on a weekly basis.  This area should include a tray, file or letter box of some kind for opened bills to be placed.  Supplies in this area include envelopes, stamps, return address stickers, trash can and shredder.  These items should be near your computer too as many are now paying at least some of their bills online.
I'll be working hard this month. As always, the full list can be found at the Get Organized Now website.

More Snow!

We had a second round of winter weather last week (and maybe even more to come still!)

Here are some updated photos with about 5 inches of snowfall.

We've been building more fires lately with all the cold weather - I do love our wood fireplace!  Stay warm out there!
