my little fishy

Claire started swimming lessons on Saturday.  And she loved it.
Patrick was the good dad who got in the pool with her while mom waved from the sidelines and snapped photos.

They did a lot of singing songs, floating on their back and putting their face in the water.  She didn't want to get out when the class was over!

She had to walk all along the edge of the water before she got out.

All smiles from this little girl.  Can't wait to go back next week.

23 weeks...a little late

23 weeks with Claire on the left and 23 weeks with new baby on the right.
Belly is a little more pronounced this time around.  Good news is - I am still feeling great.  I am always hungry and have been eating a lot of fruit - peaches and plums are now fresh at the grocery store - yum!  I go back to the doctor next week and I am excited to hear that sweet little heartbeat again.

patio progress

Remember when we started working on our patio a few weeks ago?

Well - we are almost done!!

The concrete is cut in a way to look like large pieces of stone.  Patrick picked out the design and I think it turned out great.

And Claire got to leave a little footprint in the concrete - do you see it?

We still need to do some landscaping and fix the grass around the border of the patio but we are happy with the progress.  We've only got a few more weeks until Claire's big first birthday party so we need to get busy!

thoughts on gardening

I finally got our garden planted a couple of weeks ago.  Our poor neighbor Gloria was just waiting on me to plant what I wanted so she could use the remaining space for her plants.  We shared the garden box on the side of my house last year and it worked out perfectly.  I did the planting and she did everything else!  She is my garden fairy.

Here is what I put out this year:

I think I ended up with 7 tomato plants, a yellow squash and a zucchini.
Gloria too up the space at the end with some more tomatoes and peppers.

Every time I have gone outside to check on the plants, they have been well tended and watered.  Good old garden fairy Gloria....makes it easy to have a green thumb with a neighbor like that.

I'm excited to watch our garden grow and hopefully we'll have some tasty produce later this summer.

my best friend and Grant's farm

She's here!!  She's here!!  My best friend is in town!

Keshia arrived this past weekend so we took off work Tuesday and headed to Grant's Farm with Claire.

Claire went on her first Carousel ride...

She enjoyed the elephant show...

And she loved feeding the goats...

(I might have enjoyed feeding the goats too!)

We had a great day!

Father's Day 2014

We were so fortunate to be able to spend Father's Day with both of our dads and Patrick's grandpa.

Saturday we headed out to Patrick's parents to have a BBQ with his parents, his grandpa and other family.  Unfortunately, I forgot my camera but it was a great time and Claire was the center of attention (imagine that!)

On Sunday, we headed down to Perryville to spend time with my dad and family.

Gavin and Claire played magnets on the fridge:

Uncle Grant got to feed Claire:

And Claire's dada got to snuggle with her:

Love him.  Life is good.

Claire - Eleven Months

11 months.....11 months.  Am I dreaming?  This little girl is growing way too fast.

 Unofficial 11 month stats:
16 lbs 10 oz - 0%

Here is what I want to remember from the past month:
  • You are a moving machine.  You love to pull up, walk along the couch and crawl at top speed.
  • You are so curious.  You like to crawl behind the couch and loveseat and make little loops through the living room.  You think you are being so sneaky.
  • You still love to hang out in the hallway and try to hide from mama and dada.  We keep all the doors closed and let you think you are getting away with something.
  • You get so excited when I open the front door.  You clench your little fists and shake in anticipation.  You love going outside and you know that is where the front door leads.
  • You are still being a little mama's girl.  You seem to have been wanting your mama more and more lately.  I wonder if you have some intuition that things are going to be changing soon and mama will be busy.
  • Even though you might be a mama's girl, you love to snuggle on dada when you are tired.  Mama's big belly is starting to get in the way of really good snuggles.
  • You have very good balance.  You can bend down to pick things up off the floor and I often catch you standing with no hands next to the couch.
  • You like to CLIMB!  If mama is sitting on the floor, you will use me as a stepping stool to climb up onto the couch.  You also like to climb on the soft beanbag in the living room.
  • You are still a good sleeper.  We can usually put you down right after your bedtime bottle and you will snuggle right up in your crib to go to sleep.
  • You are still not a good napper.  It is really spotty when you nap....but you sleep all night long so I still say we are winning.
  • You are still a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fan. We love all the music, especially the hot dog dance song.
  • You are so vocal!  You have been saying mama, dada and hi!  It is so cute.  You are also babbling so much.  I love listening to all your little noises.
  • You tried several new foods this month - chicken/broccoli/rice, blueberries, cantelope, watermelon, green beans, grapes and mango.
  • You are great at holding your own bottle and you definitely let us know whether or not you are still hungry.
  • You love the water and you love bathtime.  You splash so much I need to wear a raincoat.  It is a lot of fun.
  • Your hair is getting so long and so light.  It's hard to imagine that you were born with such dark hair!  It is a light blond with almost a little auburn.
  • You love being outside.  We planted a little garden and you help mama water the flowers.
  • You are getting better at waving "bye bye" to people.
  • You are starting to be a little more of a stinker in church.  Your favorite activity is called "empty the diaper bag".
  • You like to eat finger foods.  We are trying to eat more finger foods and less mashed up foods.
  • You love puppies.  The neighbors behind us have 2 big dogs and when we are outside and you hear them bark you always look for them.  You get so excited watching them run around in their yard.
  • You love to empty your toy crate and look at all your books.  You can spend so much time pulling out each book and looking at the pages.  You especially like the touch and feel books.
  • You love our cell phones and the TV remote.  Whatever electronic mom or dad has you want.  We gave you a fake phone and remote as a decoy.
  • You love turning off the light in the bathroom after you take your bath.  You always reach straight for the light switch after I wrap you up in the towel.
  • I always run your bath water and your dad gets you undressed.  Then he sets you loose and lets you crawl naked to me in the bathroom.  You know exactly what time it is and you are excited.  I love it.

another Prost wedding

This past Saturday my cousin Allison got married.

Yep - this funny pair:

 Circa 2012 Murder Mystery Dinner
You're welcome Alli!

The wedding was gorgeous - I am a bad blogger and don't have any good photos so I had to shamelessly steal the following from Facebook:

You will not find a happier, fun loving couple.  When the wedding party made their entrance, they threw out T-shirts to the crowd.  Everyone was waving their arms desperate to get one.  Little did they know that the T-shirts came with a hidden agenda:

You read that right - those "lucky" recipients were now part of the Wedding Clean Up Committee!  Too funny!  I absolutely loved this idea - only Allison and Charlie could have pulled off such a grand entrance and joke.

And now a few photos that I did manage to snap:

Family photo - just missing Carrie!!

It was such a fun night with family.  I love, love, love having such a big family.

Claire's Birth Story: Part Five

If you want to start at the beginning, here is part one...

Patrick informed me this evening that curious minds want to know how the birth story ends....I guess I left you all in a cliff hanger.  And by you all, I mean Patrick - even though he was there.

So when I last left off we were ready to have a baby....

The nurse snapped this lovely gem at 1:05

And then Dr. Lawrence popped back in and it was time to push.  Thanks to my friend Mr. Epidural, I didn't even know when I was having a contraction so I relied on the nurse to tell me when to push.  My husband offered supportive counting as well.  The pushing wasn't that bad - I pushed for maybe 10 minutes before you could see the baby's head - lots of hair! - and oh the suspense!  They had the big mirror there for me to watch the progress but once I saw blood, I didn't want to see anything else.  It's fair to say I'm pretty squeamish.  A few more minutes of pushing and the baby was here!! Official time:  1:25 am!  A mere 4ish hours after my water broke at home in our bathroom!
This is my favorite part of the birth story.  Since we didn't know what we were having, Dr. Lawrence held up the baby and Patrick exclaimed "It's a girl!".  30 seconds later, me, who was still in "the zone" finally asked "Well...what is it?"  This set all the nurses into giggles.  Dr. Lawrence held the baby up for me to see and said "What do you think Emily?"  And though my eyes saw a girl, in my mind I was so certain we were having a boy.  So my brain was racing back and forth - that looks like a girl, but I know we were having a boy, but that really looks like a girl.....  I finally managed to squeak out "A girl?".  And that made Dr. Lawrence laugh as well as he told me I was correct.
What I love about the hospital we chose is that the rooms are all emcompassing labor, delivery and recovery rooms.  So the nurses were there with the scale and baby warmer.  No one had to whisk her away to clean her up or get her measured.  It was so nice to be able to watch them do their thing while I was being tended to.

6 lbs, 9 ounces
19.5 inches
1:25 am

She was here and she was perfect.

When everything had settled down, Patrick texted our families to let them know that we had a baby!  He didn't tell them it was a girl - he left them hanging!!  About an hour later they were all allowed to come rushing in and a guessing game ensued....

My mom was certain it was a boy and Patrick's mom wasn't so sure.  It was fun keep them guessing.  Patrick finally told them we had a baby girl and everyone was thrilled...except she didn't have a name!  We were debating between 2 different names so she was nameless for the first 12 hours of her life.  As you know, we decided on Claire Louise and I couldn't be happier with our choice.  She is our little Claire Bear....and we are so in love.
